I help people start & grow their multi-unit rental property portfolio so they can Quit Their Day job

"Excuses are tools of the incompetent. They build monuments of nothingness. Those who choose to use them seldom amount to anything." This is a powerful poem I had etched in my memory in college as I joined the brotherhood of Kappa Alpha Psi Incorporated. Throughout my professional years, I firmly believed that excuses will be the death of me (financially speaking).

You are watching: Excuses are tools of incompetence quote

People will attempt to excuse their tardiness by blaming it on outside circumstances. They would explain that they are late as a result of traffic or that they dropped the ball on a project as a result of a team member. Sure, these excuses may have validity, but you still have to produce no matter what. The only thing that matters is results; people care less about excuses.

Thus, if you want to excel as a businessperson, you have to get rid of excuses. You have to provide the results your clients are looking for. I once did a tour of my properties in Pittsburgh. It was winter and I was very sick. However, about 20 people paid to see me perform and I had to perform--period. Sure, being sick could have been a valid reason to cancel the tour, but think about the impact it would have left on my clients. Again, the only thing that matters is results; I can always get some rest later.

Stay away from excuses; they add no value to your life. Be resourceful and find a way to get the job done. If you have a hard time producing the results you want, then you should consider having a change in mindset. great write-up, and definitely, something hard to forget from my college fraternity education process as well. As a leader today, and working in corporate America, I definitely tone down the language a bit for my team, especially in more formal settings....but the sentiment and impact have definitely helped us operate at our best...and aspire to do better each and every day. Thank you for inspiring those fond memories Juan Pablo!and thank you Sigma Lambda Beta International Fraternity Inc. EO for the work you all do to continue to shape the attitudes and behaviors of our future leaders! LB!!
