Why make ranch dressing from scratch?
There’s a few reasons to make ranch dressing from scratch. I’m a big fan of the Hidden Valley Ranch packets that you can mix at home, but the pre-made on the shelf version of ranch is gross! The consistency is just weird. When you make ranch mix at home, you can know exactly what’s in it.
How much ranch mix is in one packet?
There is 2 tablespoons in one packet of ranch mix. This recipe makes the amount in one packet.
A few years ago we did an elimination diet as a family, and dairy was off the list. I was pretty much making everything from scratch during that time. Ranch Dressing was one of those things I learned to love to make from scratch. No more ranch dressing packets from the store for us! Even now that we are back on with dairy (thank heavens!) I still love to make this ranch dressing mix from scratch, and whenever possible I love to make extra to have on hand for busy weeks.
Ingredients:1 teaspoon dried chives1 teaspoon dried parsley1 teaspoon dried dill weed1/2 teaspoon onion powder1/2 teaspoon garlic powder1/4 teaspoon sea salt1/4 teaspoon black pepper
How to make Ranch Dressing Mix:
Add the spices above to these two:2 cups buttermilk1 cup mayonnaiseMix dry ingredients with the wet ingredients: buttermilk and mayo. Whisk together until smooth.Chill prepared ranch dressing in the fridge for a few hours before serving.
The best thing about this recipe is that you probably have all these dry ingredients in your spice drawer right now.
Make a big batch of the dry mix. Store 2 tablespoon amounts in ziplock bags or for a big batch, you can store it all in a mason jar. You’ll be glad to have it at the ready when needed. The best part about making things from scratch is that you know exactly what you’re eating.
